My journey has been anything but ordinary. Growing up, I was always drawn to creativity. I painted, sculpted, played guitar, wrote music, and designed posters—activities that fueled my imagination and brought me so much joy. Little did I know that these childhood passions would one day intersect with my love for technology, shaping the person and professional I am today: a full-stack developer who strives to bridge art and technology in meaningful ways.
The Artistic Spark in a Technological World
My professional journey started at Axiomatic Technologies, a startup where I took on a Research and Development role. It was there that I was introduced to C51, a variant of C for microcontrollers, which became my first step into the world of programming. Despite my technical role, I was nominated to build the company’s website using plain old HTML and CSS because of my artistic background. I’ll admit, I didn’t have much web development experience at the time, but I embraced the challenge, and it sparked a deep fascination with the web as a creative medium.
Eager to explore further, I moved to another startup, SailRail Systems, where I worked as an Electronic Controls Designer. There, I programmed automated line feed systems for North America’s major automotive manufacturers. Once again, I was asked to build the company’s website. With JavaScript now part of my toolkit, I was able to create more dynamic and interactive designs. These experiences inspired me to return to school and dive deeper into multimedia design, where I could fully embrace my love for combining creativity and technology.
Crafting a Multifaceted Skill Set
My studies at Durham College, where I earned an Advanced Diploma in Multimedia Design, allowed me to refine my technical skills while expanding my artistic perspective. Graduating with President’s Honour Roll recognition was a proud moment for me and marked the beginning of a career spanning over 25 years. During this time, I’ve worked across industries and mastered tools like React, Next.js, Node.js, and more, all while staying true to my creative roots.
One of my most memorable roles was at SDT Ultrasound Solutions, where I served as a Full-Stack Developer and Tech Lead. I led the creative and development team in building Learning Management Systems (LMS) for Fortune 500 companies. I also developed desktop software that used assistive AI to analyze data, prioritize repairs, and promote energy efficiency. It’s rewarding to know my work helped clients save money while reducing their environmental impact—a cause I care deeply about.
At Addictive Mobility, where I worked as a Creative Director and Full-Stack Developer, I had the chance to develop rich media advertising products like 3D virtual experiences and interactive storytelling tools. Seeing these innovations recognized in publications like Marketing Magazine was humbling, but what I value most is the opportunity to have contributed to the evolution of digital advertising standards with IAB Canada.
A Lifelong Commitment to Growth
Learning has always been a core part of who I am. My professional development goals for 2025 include advancing use with Vue.js, deepening my knowledge of TypeScript, building scalable Node.js microservices, and implementing automated testing frameworks. I’m also working toward certifications like AWS Certified Developer and Google UX Design Certification to stay at the forefront of the industry. Beyond my own growth, I find immense joy in mentoring junior developers and sharing my journey, hoping it inspires others to pursue their own paths in tech.
The Unbound Initiative: Blending Creativity and Technology
One of my proudest projects is The Unbound Initiative, an AI-driven storytelling platform that celebrates creativity and innovation. Inspired by my love for writing and storytelling, the platform invites users to explore fictional worlds and contribute to never-ending stories. It’s my way of merging art and technology into something that’s not only fun but also meaningful.
Through The Unbound Initiative, I hope to inspire others to explore their creativity and connect with people in new ways. It also aligns with my mission to use technology as a force for good, whether it’s reducing the carbon footprint of websites or promoting accessible design.
A Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, I’m excited to keep blending creativity and technology in ways that make a difference. Every project is an opportunity to learn, push boundaries, and collaborate with others who share my passion for innovation.
